Sundara Yoga Therapy’s Trauma Informed Yoga trainings are broken into distinct levels. Each level requires specific modules which are named after the elements – Earth, Fire, Water, Air and Ether. Our goal is to bring trauma informed disciplines to all manner of providers, whether they are new to their field, or are long standing practitioners. To this goal, we offer three levels of certification. The higher the level, the more elements that are required.

LEVEL 1

This training is designed to teach Trauma Informed Care practices as they apply to teaching public Yoga classes. Trauma Informed Yoga Teaching requires cognizance of the consequences of trauma and adversity, as well as the potential for Yoga practitioners to re-experience post-trauma symptoms while practicing Yoga. The focus of this training is creating a safe space, prevention of negative responses to Yoga practice in a public setting, recognition of issues and troubleshooting if such an event occurs. Time is also dedicated to an introduction of Interpersonal neurobiology, neuropsychology as it applies to Yoga practices, self-care, and deepening personal practice.

This course will be integrated into high quality 200 hr & 300 hr Yoga Teacher Training programs nationwide starting in 2018.

LEVEL 3

This training readies participants to offer our evidence based Yoga Therapy program modeled after Sundara Yoga Therapy’s very successful program that has been offered quarterly in Austin since 2009 and has served over 2000 clients. The base model of the clinic is highly modifiable for facilitators to add their own expertise and/or modify for a special population. The training is two-part, and offered online; it includes:

  1. an immersion into the protocol so the participants can experience the program as well as deeper exploration of the educational elements that are part of the program; and

  2. a mentored internship which supports participants through all the phases of developing a clinic (series or workshop) of their own, in their home town. The program, all the materials, trademarks, copyrights, etc. are “owned” by the

TIYT Collective of Facilitators; there will never be any licensing or association fees.
